SUMMARY:Chelonian Biology\, Conservation\, and Management Course
DESCRIPTION:Â \nJoin us for the Chelonian Biology\, Conservation\, and Management Course Sponsored by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums Chelonian Advisory Group in conjunction with Turtle Survival Alliance. \nThis hands-on learning experience focuses on basic biology and global conservation status of chelonians\, the latest in husbandry and reproductive techniques\, enclosure and facility design concepts\, integration of captive management plans with conservation strategies and effective conservation messaging. Participants will learn not only about chelonian husbandry\, but also how to connect with conservation projects\, breeding program management\, enrichment basics\, chelonian health fundamentals\, and more to improve chelonian management at their institutions and impact chelonians globally. Under guidance of the AZA Chelonian Advisory Group (ChAG)\, the Chelonian Biology\, Conservation\, and Management Course provides knowledge about chelonians and skills for managing these species in captivity that are essential for anyone working directly with chelonians in a zoo\, aquarium\, conservation\, or research settings. \nInterested participants must submit a 1-page (maximum) letter by August 1\, 2024\, detailing your current occupation and describing why you want to attend the course\, your prior experience with chelonians\, career goals as they relate to chelonians\, and what you expect to gain from the course. Save Turtles.® fundraiser on September 26\, 2024 from 4:00PM – 9:00PM. 50% of sales of our designated signature beer and wine cocktail do directly to Turtle Survival Alliance\, as well as the proceeds from our raffle and official Drink Beer. Save Turtles.® merchandise booth to support their incredible projects. Thank you for supporting our event!\n\nTurtle Survival Alliance is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of endangered tortoise and freshwater turtle species all over the world. Programs such as protecting Spotted Box Turtles from commercial collection in Mexico\, protecting sandbar nesting grounds for the Magdalena River Turtle in Columbia\, raising hatchling Asian Giant Tortoises for release in Bangladesh\, to helping the Burmese Star Tortoise go from functionally extinct its native habitat\, to now over 5\,000 wild individuals in for forests of Myanmar. Since the their formation in 2001\, they have been integral in helping species in 15 countries around the world to save these incredible reptiles.
